Resources Only Mod (Civilization VI)

By Quenton Bedeau

Nearly every value in the game has been changed and the main gimmick of the mod is that unimproved tiles generally do not provide any yields, unless there is a resource specifically on them. Certain improvements are much more powerful, however have strict requirements on where they can be placed and are worth placing only when adjacent to multiple adjacent tiles that provide them their bonuses; and improvements that are built on resources are not as powerful but always worth building on a tile already being worked on.

The other major and important change is that there is an exponential increase in yields provided by specialty districts with regards to population, and a significant penalty for city growth/food usage per population for each city owned by the respective player. All civilizations have altered powers that are more specialized and powerful for the general win conditions it makes sense for the civilization to go for. Pantheons are generally more powerful, and the early game is designed to more clearly set up the gameplan for each civilization.

The tech and civic trees are somewhat rearranged and rebalanced (especially for the earlygame). Natural wonders are very powerful (earlygame) and basically every single one is definitely worth settling. Nearly every built wonder has been rebalanced to ensure they are useful in all eras (as most provide a % bonus to their relevant yields if they have any) and specialty district buildings sizably increase their district's yields.

The concept of tall vs wide is more reasonably competitive; and players with less cities can still reliably hold their own, as population is much easier to grow with fewer cities and less growth penalty; and yields are exponential with regard to population. (Tall = aiming to manage only a few cities and growing them to large populations, with yields gained by improved tiles and districts. Wide = aiming to claim as much land as possible to primarily get yields for their civilization by working resource tiles).
